Refurbish the Damaged Cable Bridge to Allow Replacement of the Damaged Cables

The works comprised repairs to an existing Cable Bridge located directly over the River Calder near Burnley in Lancashire, which was severely damaged by fire through vandalism

The purpose of the project was to refurbish the damaged Cable Bridge to allow replacement of the damaged cables and comprised:

  • Provision of temporary full working platform during the entire works.
  • Phased replacement of fire damaged members.
  • Site painting of the existing fire damaged steelwork including the remainder of the Cable Bridge steelwork and hand-railing.
  • Provision of ‘Durbar’ Plate deck and all associated steelwork support members.
  • Electrical Cable support system.
  • ‘Durasteel’ fire protection to the underside of the bridge.
  • Galvanised open mesh flooring to the underside of the bridge.
  • Installation of anti-climb steelwork and razor wire as per adjacent refurbished cable bridge.
